Our class has done many
autumn activities....
We
started out with a chapter in our Science book entitled
"Plants". We learned to recognize and draw several
basic leaf shapes, and also to identify the tree's fruit
(acorn, key, pinecones, etc.). Many students
brought in leaves from their neighborhood to share. One
student visited relatives in a state across the country
(Pennsylvania), and came back with leaves to compare
with our leaves. PA leaves are much deeper colored than
ours in CA.
In art we used those leaves and other textured materials
to make textured rubbing pictures. We also did a
project where we mixed the three primary colors to make
the fall leaf colors: orange, brown, and purple, and
then painted a fall outdoor scene which included two
trees.

We also read the following books:

do leaves change color?

We really enjoyed
looking at the subtle changes fall brings to our area.
