Kathy Harris' Third Grade
Charles Wright School
Wethersfield, CT

Wethersfield, Connecticut

We are studying all about communities this year.  Wethersfield, Connecticut is a wonderful community.  Our class created a list of the things that make Wethersfield a great place.  We decided to make it a game since we were working on writing descriptions.

This is WETHERSFIELD Jeopardy!

Children learn a lot from the teachers at this school in Wethersfield.  We are all STAR students. (STARS means: Scholarly, Trustful, Aware, Respectful, and Safe)

WHAT IS CHARLES WRIGHT SCHOOL?

This body of water is attached to the Connecticut River.  Boats are docked here.  You can skip rocks here too.

WHAT IS THE WETHERSFIELD COVE?

Most children in Wethersfield visit this special playground.  It has swings, slides, climbing things and sandboxes.  It is named after a special little boy who died when he was only 3.

WHAT IS MIKEY'S PLACE?

This large park has a lot of things to do.  You can swim in a big pond where lifeguards watch you.  There are always people playing tennis, baseball and soccer here.  Many teenagers skateboard here too.  Dogs get to play in a fenced in area too.

WHAT IS MILL WOODS PARK?

In the fall, many people enjoy walking down Main Street to see these funny straw characters during October.

WHAT IS THE WETHERSFIELD SCARECROW CONTEST?

On a special Saturday in September, our town enjoys this fall festival.  Many businesses in town have booths you can visit.  There are lots of blow up jumping things you can go on.  There is a lot of food to eat too.  It is to celebrate a large crop that grows in Wethersfield.

WHAT IS THE CORN FEST?

This is a big store that we shop at.  You can get any kind of food here.  There are flowers to buy.  If you need a bank or a pharmacy, you can get those things here too.

WHAT IS STOP AND SHOP?

You can find a friend to help you at this building in Wethersfield.  There are blue and white cars parked outside this building with red lights on the roof.  If you can't go to this building, you can always call 911 in an emergency.

WHAT IS THE WETHERSFIELD POLICE STATION?

Teacher's Note:
As  busy as the school year is right now, we really enjoyed this project.  It is great to utilize our curriculum to integrate a project.  My kids love Jeopardy for review - so this was a natural for them to create!  We also created (using Paint) maps of our community.  Thanks- Kathy Harris
