In Castalia, Ohio there are many things that change and
happen in
autumn. Our 1st grade class enjoyed reading a non-fiction
book titled
When Autumn Comes by Robert Maass. We are trying to
incorporate more non-fiction into our daily classroom
explorations and this book did a great job helping us
investigate the different things that happen in autumn. We
discussed everything from changing weather, different types
of fruit, and holidays to our favorite sports, foods, and
family activities.

We
used our
SmartBoard
and brainstormed some writing topics that we would like to
use to tell others about
autumn in Ohio.
Each student wrote a “sloppy copy” using the Formula Writing
format, read it to the
class, checked it with Miss Snyder, and then we took a trip
to the school computer lab and typed the sentences, printed
them out, illustrated them and shared them with each other.
