Leaf Man, Leaf Man, What Do You See?

I see Sasha at the MacKenzie King Estate and he is looking at me.

Our class had a great time doing the Leaf Man project.  The leaves here in Ontario where at their prime and we were able to collect some beautiful red, orange and yellow maple leaves,  and deep brown oak leaves as well as various others that grow in our area.
We decided that Leaf Man (or Leaf Bird or Leaf Girl!) would be on the lookout for the students doing things that are typical of this area in the fall.
Going to school, starting hockey, hiking at the MacKenzie King Estate are all things we love to do at this time of year.  A visit from Elmer the Safety Elephant to draw attention to International Walk to School Day was also a highlight.

I see Abby at school and she is looking at me.

I see Ben at the rink and he's looking at me.

I see Daniel with Elmer the Safety Elephant and he is looking at me.

I see Quintin playing hockey and he is looking at me.

One of our favourite books this year has been First Snow in the Woods by Carl R. Sams and Jean Stoick.  It fit in perfectly with our Language Arts and Science curriculum expectations.  More importantly it was a book that totally engaged the students with the exquisite pictures and wonderful words.

We decided to do a class list poem based on this project and detailing some of the things we see here in the fall.

Leaf Man, Leaf Man, what do you see?
Well if you lived in Ottawa this is what it would be!

Leaves falling.
People wearing poppies.
Kids playing in leaves.
Trees without leaves.
People raking leaves
Canadian geese migrating.
Kids running through leaves.
The Senators hockey season starting.
Leaves turning colour.
Frost on the ground early in the morning.
