Leaf Man Project 2008

 Mindy Hellbusch's Kindergarten
English Landing Elementary
Kansas City, Missouri

Our kindergarten class enjoyed our study of the fall season.  Kindergarten families were asked to collect leaves from their neighborhoods.  We completed many different activities with our leaves.

  • The students were asked to sort their leaves and tell the class the category that they used to sort the leaves.  The students sorted leaves by color, size, shape, and type of leaf.

  • We completed a leaf investigation where we measured our favorite leaf, compared our favorite leaf to others, and wrote about our favorite leaf.

  • We read the stories Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf and Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert.  Each student used his/her leaves to make his/her own leaf man.

We learned about our community, Kansas City, and all of the places that are a part of our community.  Then each student wrote about a place in our community where his/her leaf man flew.  We published a class book about our Leaf Men.  Enjoy looking at our Leaf Man stories!
