Colorful Spring!
A Collaborative Internet Literacy Project   Spring 2007

Maria De Luz 1st Grade
James Leitch Elementary School
Fremont, California

We enjoyed learning about spring in our classroom - even though we do not experience seasonal changes in California as in other parts of the country.  We especially enjoyed learning about eggs, butterflies and flowers.  It is also a time for practicing all the writing skills we have learned since September.

For the "Colorful Spring" project, we read lots of books about the seasons, the colors of spring, eggs, butterflies, and flowers, and then searched for signs of spring outside in our community.  One of our projects was to decorate paper eggs for a bulletin board display and to use them for writing prompts to practice writing descriptive and narrative stories.  Some children wrote descriptive stories, and others chose to use their imagination and write about "finding their egg."

We also wrote a class acrostic poem, using our best adjectives:

    Our Pretty Eggs

Outstanding
Unusual
Red

Pink
Round
Excellent
Terrific
Tremendous
Yellow

Elliptical
Green
Grand
Special

We found a book not included in the list of good books that we enjoyed and would like to share:

An Egg is Quiet by Dianna Aston and Sylvia Long
