Touchstone Book:
Go Away, Big Green  Monster!
by Ed Emberly
Writing Craft:
Launching Descriptive Writing

I use this book to show descriptive writing. After reading the book we go back and classify the words that the author used to describe the monster: color words, number words, shape words etc.  Then the children make their own big green monsters with precut construction paper pieces. Using descriptive word charts as a support, the children write descriptions of their own big green monsters.
